Let’s look at how to create cool text effects using Adobe Express inside of eDesign. Open a blank canvas in Adobe from your art library or while working on a page. Add a text frame, choose a thick font so effects are visible, and optionally place the text in a shape.
With a text frame selected, look to the left panel for a tab called Effects. Click it to explore the options. The Shadows section offers preset shadow styles where Adobe has preset the opacity, blur, and distance. Shortcuts like Glow apply a formula automatically. Toggles on each shortcut let you control the text color and shadow color independently.
For more control, click Custom. This lets you set the blur amount, angle, and distance manually. Drag the distance slider to offset the shadow from the text, and adjust the angle to position it exactly where you want.
When dialing in effects, keep your text centered in the canvas so edges of glows or shadows don’t get clipped when placed on a spread. Before publishing back to eDesign, click outside the text frame and set your background to transparent (the checkerboard pattern) so there’s no white box behind your text element.
The Shapes section in Effects offers another set of text treatments worth exploring. Once satisfied, click Publish and the graphic saves to your eDesign art library ready to use.
