Creating Templates and Mods

Transcript

You can make a custom template from any layout you create or customize in eDesign. Templates allow you to use similar designs on different spreads in your book. I created this design for the division spreads in my book and I want to repeat the same base layout on all the division pages, so I’ll save it as a template.

I’ll go to the File menu and choose Save this template. Then give the template a name that will make it easy to identify and save it. It will then appear in the template section of your library panel. I’ll now go down to the next division spread in my book. Templates are always full spread design so you have to have both pages open for editing when placing a template.

I’ll open the template section of the library, then I’ll just click, drag and drop the template to apply it to the spread. You can also apply Herff Jones Template as a starting place, make changes to customize it for your book, and then save that is your own custom template. A Mod which is just short for a Module, is a selection of one or more page elements that you want to save, so you can apply it to other pages.

Mods can be pulled from the Library panel and placed anywhere on the spread. To save a Mod select one or more items you want to include in the Mod, then go to the File menu and choose Save As Mod. Give the Mod a name and save it. You can also access the Save As Mod function from the Context menu that appears with a right click.
