Using Grids in Page Design

The Document Grid

  • Go to ViewShow Grid to reveal the graph-paper background.
  • Default grid: ½-pica squares (1 pica = ⅙ inch).
  • Helps align elements and maintain consistent spacing across the page.
  • When snap to grid is on, eDesign snaps objects to the grid lines to help you align objects precisely. This snapping behavior is active even when the grid is hidden.

The Swiss Grid

  • A specialized grid for the Square One design approach.
  • When an adviser/editor activates Swiss grid, the margin settings also adjust automatically to match.

Adjust Grid Default for All Pages (Adviser/Editor)

  • Advisers and Editors can adjust the default grid settings for all pages in Settings
    • SettingsDesign StylesPreferences: select grid defaults: type, snapping, and size (1, ½, or ¼ pica).
    • See the Setting Preferences tutorial for more details.

Individual Spread Grid Controls

  • In Page Design: View menu → toggle snapping and grid visibility on and off for the current spread only.
  • Right-click (or Ctrl+click on Mac) any empty area of the page → select show/hide grid.
  • Changes made to the View in Page Design only affect that single spread; changes in Preferences apply to all pages.
