Arranging Objects: Bring Forward and Send Backward

The stacking order determines which objects appear on top when items overlap on your page. Use the arrange commands to bring objects forward or send them backward to create the layered effect you want.

Understanding Stacking Order

Every object on your page has a position in the stacking order. Objects eDesign considers “above” others appear on top, while objects below appear underneath. You only notice this when items overlap. The arrange commands let you change this order.

Bring Forward and Send Backward

Select an object and choose Object > Bring Forward to move it up one level in the stacking order. Choose Object > Send Backward to move it down one level. These commands move an object one step at a time, so you may need to use them multiple times if there are many overlapping objects.

Bring to Front and Send to Back

For more drastic changes, use Bring to Front to move an object above all other objects on the page, or Send to Back to move it beneath everything.

Arranging Multiple Objects

To arrange more than one object at a time, select multiple objects using Shift-click, then use any of the arrange commands. All selected objects will move together in the stacking order.

Other Places to Access the Arrange Panel

You can also access arrange commands from the context menu and the control panel.

  • Select an object, right-click, and choose your desired arrange option
  • Select one or more objects, open the arrange panel from the top control panel
