Understanding Color in eDesign
- Monitor colors are in RGB (light-based) — the way a color looks on screen is not necessarily how it will print.
- Yearbook colors are printed in CMYK (ink-based) — always choose colors using the Colors Poster from your yearbook kit or a professional CMYK swatch book, not by how they look on your monitor.
Activating Color Swatches in Settings
- Log in as an adviser or editor → Settings → Design Styles → Colors.
- Check the box beside a color name to activate it; uncheck to deactivate.
- Click the Activated header to sort and see all currently active swatches.
- To create a custom swatch: click Add → enter CMYK values → name it → click Add.
- To edit an existing swatch’s name to make it more recognizable: click Edit.
Using Swatches in Page Design
- Activated swatches appear in the Text, Stroke, Fill, and Background color panels in Page Design.
- Advisers and editors can add or edit swatches directly from Page Design.
- If a template has a color not in your swatches: select the object → click Add Swatch → name it → CMYK values preload from the object → save to make it available to all users.
